Public Montessori in Ukraine

Our next episode features the emergence of public Montessori in Ukraine. Anna Volokhova and Viktoriia Shcherbyna and talk about their Montessori journeys, the impact of the war in Ukraine and their work together to support Montessori schools during this time. Anna is the CEO of Montessori UA, an organization founded this past spring in response to the war in Ukraine with a goal of bringing people together and spreading the Montessori method across the country. Viktoriia is the director of a Montessori program who working with the government to support open access to Montessori education.



Anna Volokhova is the Founder and CEO at Montessori UA. She is an ambulance doctor with 2 years of experience, activist, volunteer of the Red Cross Emergency Response Unit during the Revolution of Dignity, and the coordinator of the direction of medical support for hospitals in the East during 2022. In addition, Anna is a volunteer in Ukraine, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. She is a Montessori educator for ages 0-3 and 3-6 years with 3 years of experience working in Montessori programs in Vietnam, Albania, and Turkey.

Viktoriia Shcherbyna is a researcher in the field of international relations and foreign policy as well as education. She holds a PhD in Political Science, and acts as the director of a Montessori school. In addition, she is an Associate Professor in the field of education an English language teacher/tutor/translator and interpreter. She is credentialed as a Montessori assistant teacher 0-3, (AMI), Montessori elementary teacher 6-12 (NAMC), Montessori adolescent teacher 12-18.
