Montessori in Action Podcast

Engaging conversations with Montessori practitioners

Season 4, Ep. 7:

Montessori Assistants

Our next episode of Montessori in Action features Guest Host, Genevieve D’Cruz. In this conversation, Genevieve speaks with two Montessorians- Elena Gonzalez. and  Jamila Ford  who were Assistants in Genevieve’s classroom when she was a Primary Guide. Both of these educators went on to take their Montessori training and are now leading classrooms of their own. In reminiscing about their time together, they talk about their experience in Montessori training, and share insight and wisdom for Assistants, Guides, and anyone aspiring to go to Montessori training themselves.

Elena Ventura was born and raised in Washington, D.C. She is a mother and educator passionate about ABAR work, incorporating Montessori for neurodivergent children and making Montessori education accessible to all children, especially low-income children and their families. She has 10+ years of experience in Montessori education as an assistant in the private and public sectors. She motivates and supports assistants in obtaining Montessori Certification, aiming to ensure that the children they interact with in the city have more guides who share similar backgrounds. She completed her Montessori training in the summer of 2023 at the Montessori Training Center Northeast Cleveland, Ohio, satellite location. She is credentialed as a Primary Montessori Guide through the Association Montessori Internationale. She is currently in a small private Montessori school in Capital Hill.

Jamila Ford is the Lead Guide of the Barnes Hus community at Lee Montessori Public Charter School in Washington, DC. She began her education journey in 2013 at Howard University when she changed her major from Music Business to Music Education. From there, she worked for summer camps, aftercare programs, and Oakland Unified School District in California. In 2017 she was first introduced to Montessori through an aftercare program. She fell in love with the unique pedagogy; she became a Lifelong Fellow at Lee Montessori in 2022 after working in a community for 4 years. She is currently completing my training at MINT in Dallas, Texas and looks forward to sharing Montessori with all people.
