Season 4, Ep. 1:

Dual Language and Montessori

To launch season 4 of the Montessori in Action Podcast, our topic is dual language and Montessori. We have two guests who have recently written articles about this unique combination. Gabriela Iturrald Espejo, the biliteracy coordinator at Montessori del Mundo, wrote The Science of Reading for Bilingual Children which appeared in Montessori Public’s recent issue. Sally Ness, the Director of Admissions at Intercultural Montessori Language School, wrote Dual Language, Montessori Education- The Pathway for Peace, which appeared in Montessori Life. These two educators unpacked some of the complexities of schools that offer both Montessori and dual language programs.

To find a community of practice to discuss dual language and Montessori, join our Dual Language Collaborative. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Share your experience surrounding the implementation of Montessori and dual language practices in the classroom

  • Learn from each other

  • Move the dual language work forward through the generation of new tools, resources and materials

Gabriela Iturralde Espejo serves as  Bi-Literacy Coordinator at Montessori del Mundo, a public charter in Aurora, Colorado, and a PhD student in Equity, Bilingualism and Biliteracy program at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Sally Ness is the Director of Admissions at Intercultural Montessori Language School in Chicago. She holds a degree in Elementary and Special Education as well as Montessori certification for Elementary I & II. After teaching in a variety of settings, Sally found her home in Montessori education.
