Engaging conversations with Montessori practitioners

Season 4, Ep. 3:

School Start Up Sankofa Team

Sankofa Montessori is a new charter public school in Georgia that just opened its doors this school year. Our episode this month features two of their five-member leadership team- Jasmine See, who is the Manager of Student Culture and Family Engagement, and Chantille Chelich who is the Associate Director of Academics. This conversation explores their experience opening a public school as they share the school’s vision and their commitment to fully implementing it.

Jasmine See is a certified Montessorian with 4 years of teaching experience in Georgia Montessori schools. Upon graduating from Spelman College in 2016 with a B.A in Psychology, Ms. See pursued a career in education after discovering the capacity of children in the school setting. Ms. See had the opportunity to work with a non-profit group that advocated for equity in education and encouraged Montessori in the public sector. From then, Ms. See realized that the work of connecting people to the resources that they may need to drastically change their experience was and is truly the peace and joy of her life. Through her work with Sankofa Montessori, Ms. See hopes to continue expanding her impact on the Georgia Educational landscape

Chantille Chelich, Associate Director of Academics, is entering her 12th year in education, all of which have been in both private and public Montessori. Ms. Chelich has served as a Teacher’s Assistant, a Primary and a Lower Elementary teacher, and a Montessori Instructional Specialist, where she coached and trained teachers in the Montessori method in traditional settings. She has both AMS Primary and Lower Elementary certifications and is a graduate of Southern Methodist University, where she received her M. Ed. with specializations in SPED and Montessori Education. During her free time, Ms. Chelich enjoys watching new movies and anime shows, playing video games, trying new coffee shops and restaurants, and spending as much time with her two children.
